The Hill Academy is on a three game road trip, where they play two teams in the top 25 on the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings. They have already taken down #20 St. Paul’s 12-11 in a nail bitter, but last night took on a separate challenge in playing #7 Gonzaga.
These teams were said to be evenly matched, both coming off season where they both finished in the top 25 Gonzaga #3. However, the hill academy showed their dominance for the majority of the game.
Gonzaga came out of the gate rather slow, so The Hill Academy took advantage. They continued to find large holes in the Purple Eagles defense and continued to score goal after goal. Gonzaga could not answer back, fighting the first quarter down 6-0.
In the second quarter, the Eagles tighten up on defense and did not allow the Academies’ momentum get in their way. Gonzaga was able to get off two goals before half time to make the score 6-2 Hill Academy.
The third quarter was more evenly matched, but the advantage was still in favor of Hill Academy who gashed the Eagles with another four goals to their two score 10-5.
The Hill Academy never relinquished their lead, but Gonzaga showed some fire in the final five minutes of the game netting five goals to bring the score to 12-9 with 1:39 left in the game. Gonzaga was able to score once again, but the Hill Academy was able to hold on for the win.
Gonzaga was Ranked #7 and Hill Academy was ranked #9. Look for the rankings to reflect Hill Academies last two games. Hill Academy takes on Calvert Hall (MD) today. Check back for updates or follow DigitalSports on twitter @DS_DigSports
